A Victorian coroner is urging the government to deliver sweeping changes to the state's criminal justice system, in response to an aboriginal woman's death in her prison cell. In an emotional hearing, the coroner described Victoria’s bail laws as a "complete and unmitigated disaster” and said Veronica Nelson's 2020 death was a "devastating" tragedy that should have been prevented.
