2006 I Couldn't See that I was Blind

I Couldn’t See That I Was Blind, written by Mark Fielding Darden in 2006 at Blue Creek Valley Farm.
This is a very open-heart-surgery song... Many, many men will identify and see themselves in this song.
This was the view from the front porch of the home I built... the home was 6400 square feet and built like a castle, with secret rooms, huge fireplaces, five bedrooms, five tiled bathrooms, and all the trimmings. My son shot his first 8 pointer here. My daughter learned to drive on these farm roads. I designed it and I built it. I never thought I'd have another home on this earth.
It hurts to hear this song. Looking back, I don't think as much blame was there as I was "confessing," but when you are in the pit, even the sky looks dark from down there. In one year, I lost most of my worldly possessions and my marriage and kids. Then my real estate business fell apart in the housing debacle of 2008. I had to declare bankruptcy shortly afterwards. They say it’s a short walk from the castle to the outhouse. Truer words were never spoken. It was a tough time for me, especially when I had to sell my estate and move into my window-less basement office in downtown Oxford NC.
Thanks to Kristin Kanady and Chris Kisgen for harmonies and bass guitar. I played guitar, sang, wrote the song and made the video.
