Mothers of Iran - campaign video (English subtitled)

  • last year
The horrific death of Mahsa Amini has sparked protests throughout Iran as its people seek freedom from the cruel regime currently in power. This moment in time is the result of 44 years of oppression and injustice and, as Iranians, we felt compelled to be a voice for our country and our people in this critical moment.

This piece, entitled Mothers of Iran, contains symbolic elements that represent the many victims of the regime. The red shoes represent the ones found at the scene when a passenger plane, struck by a government missile, crashed and killed all the civilians onboard. The scarf set aflame recalls the young woman who, in protest of the hijab, burned herself to death while holding her headscarf in her hand. The rope represents the many Iranians who have been executed by hanging, and the scythe is the same kind used by a father to kill his own daughter, simply for dating man he did not approve of. The championship medal represents multiple awarded athletes who were either imprisoned or executed. Finally, the rose petals symbolize of the lives of young Iranians - lives that are valuable and precious.

This is a time of grief and pain, yes, but also of hope as we struggle together for change. The current violence and unrest is not the end for Iranians. This generation is courageous and zealous, willing to fight for a better future even at great personal cost. We will do everything in our power to support the people of Iran and contribute our voice to their cries for change.

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
