Spring is the most wonderful time of the year to see rapids in Finland.
Nature awakens from its hibernation, resulting in spectacular and dangerous rapids.
Snow that is melting across the country is now being transported to the sea via rivers and canals.
'Myllykoski' is the first rapid in a series of rapids to come.
Located along the Vantaa river in Finland's most populous rural municipality, Nurmijärvi.
Known for its rapids and is one of the most beautiful rapids in Southern Finland.
The rapids have a length of 400 meters and a drop of 11 meters.
The water streams can be admired from the shores or from 3 bridges crossing the rapids.
There are two campfire sites at the bottom of the rapids. (1 is now flooded though.)
Myllykoski was once one of Nurmijärvi's best mill sites.
Several mills have been active here since the 16th century.
Remains of the mills can still be seen.
Myllykoski has had Nurmijärvi's first power plant, which was built in the 1920s.
At that time, the mills moved closer to the center of the villages.
The power plant has since been discontinued and dismantled.
In addition to hiking, Myllykoski is also a popular fishing spot.
Only fly fishing is allowed in the area and the most common prey fish is rainbow trout.
