“After modules and modems: Education revolution”

The DepEd historically gets the highest budget from Congress. A report to the Commission on Appointment in 2017 called DepEd “the biggest bureaucracy in the Philippine Government. At the time, the depart had 763,538 authorized Plantilla positions with 674,613 being a teaching position. However a World Bank report released on 2021 showed that Filipino students ranked low in the multilateral bank’s learning assessments related to math, science and reading, noting that the problem is accompanied by bullying and health issues such as malnutrition.
The education industry was disrupted during the onset of the pandemic, which forced teachers and students to shift to remote learning due to health protocol. The abrupt shift to distance learning was wrought challenges, including spotty internet and the lack of funds for gadgets. The Education department expects all school to conduct face to face classes by November 2, 2022. Over 32,700 public and 1063 private schools already started in person classes, as of figures shared last week.

Also, we will take a look at the plans, policies and undertakings for the next 6 years of DepED including the views on K-12, ROTC, and GMRC – inclusion in the school curriculum.
