Ruben Torres was facing Cristian Baez in the lightweight main event in Corona, California on Saturday night.

The pair battled until the seventh round when Baez made the mistake of trying to touch the gloves.

As soon as Baez touched gloves with his opponent, a quick left hook followed.

Baez was instantly knocked out and fell on his back with the referee announcing the fight.

The knockout has left fans divided on whether the blow was fair.

One said on Twitter: "Dirty, but protect yourself at all times."

Another tweeted: "Sure it's dirty but technically legal so that's it."

One spectator said that boxers should view fights as if they were "at war".

However, he received a response: "You are not at war, you are in a sports contest.

"If you want to go to war, join the army."

Others say it reminds them of when Floyd Mayweather faced Victor Ortiz in 2011.

Ortiz hit Mayweather in the face with an apparently intentional head butt, opening a cut on the inside and outside of Mayweather's mouth.

The referee, Joe Cortez, immediately called a timeout and penalized Ortiz one point for the foul.

Ortiz acknowledged his wrongdoing, the pair embracing before Mayweather caught his opponent with a left hook and then a right hook that ended the fight.

One boxing fan said: "Mayweather did less than that and the whole boxing world was behind him...

"Wow how different things are here...the comment doesn't call this guy all sorts of names."
