Bhagavad Gita 5.19-20

As long as one identifies oneself with one's physical and mental body, one remains a conditioned soul and is subject to taking birth, growing old, becoming diseased, and dying, but as soon as one is elevated to the stage of equanimity through realization of the self, the soul, one is liberated from conditioned life. In other words, one is no longer subject to taking birth in the material world but can enter into the spiritual sky after death.
