Incredible moment a rare 'hay devil' whirlwind was captured in a field in Devon

This video shows a rare 'hay devil' - a mini "whirlwind" in a field created by weather conditions. Diary farmer Martin Trude, 48, captured the "uncommon event" in one of his fields last week (15 June) in Devon. Martin, who runs Lee Farm Services - an organic diary farm said: "Nowadays, people don't make so much hay, bit it occurs when you get the haze of light on the field - and really hot weather. "Then suddenly, it forms like a whirlwind. "I sort of finished the middle of the field, looked to my right, and then saw it heading towards me - which is quite unusual, because usually you're in the wrong place. "So I just started jumped out of tracks and I had my phone, so I just grabbed it and videoed it". Martin admitted he had never seen a hay devil as big as this one in his life. He added: "Normally it's just a little whirlwind and it's sort of stops after sort of 30 seconds and disappears over the hedge. "But, because it was coming down towards me it was sort of quite high by the time I noticed that to start videoing - it was already flying up in the air". Filmed on 15th June 2022
