Tigers, bear rescued from Phuket zoo shut down by Thailand’s pandemic tourist slump

Three tigers and a large Asiatic black bear were the last animals to be rescued from a zoo on the Thai resort island of Phuket on June 7, 2022. The Phuket Zoo was forced to shut its doors in late 2021 after the attraction fell victim to financial pressures of the Covid-19 pandemic, which severely cut tourist arrivals and in turn zoo visitors.
