HC says Umar Khalid is not a Terrorist | ED arrests Satyendar Jain | JNU Student tops UPSC | Overview
In this episode of Overview, Senior Journalist and Founder The Public India, Anand Vardhan Singh talks about JNU student leader Umar Khalid who is in the jail under UAPA for the Delhi riots but now Delhi High Court has observed that speaking against prime minister Narendra Modi or his Government is not an act of terrorism. However, the court has also observed that the speech given by Umar Khalid in Bhima Koregaon was in bad taste or maybe disrespectful but that does not make Umar Khadi a terrorist. During the prosecution, the police cited Umar’s speeches given at various places.
Anand Vardhan Singh further talks about the Minister of Delhi Government Satyendar Jain, who was arrested by the enforcement directorate on Monday on the charges of money laundering. Looking at the upcoming assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh, it is not ruled out that Jain is a victim of politics as he is the in-charge of Himachal Pradesh from the Aam Aadmi Party.
He also talks about Shruti Sharma who topped the UPSC in 2022. She has studied at Jawahar Lal Nehru University and took coaching from Jamia Milia Islamia, New Delhi which is among the top-rated universities in India. But the BJP and its right-wing supporters used to target these institutions.
