BJP MLA claims Belagavi Shahi masjid built on temple

As the Gyanvapi mosque row continues in Karnataka, BJP MLA Abhay Patil on Sunday, May 29, claimed that the Shahi Masjid in Belagavi was originally a Hindu temple and urged the district administration to conduct a survey in this regard.
"I was told that the mosque was built after destroying the temple. When I went and looked at it, I thought so too," Patil said. "In the mosque, there's a door that's like the ones found in the sanctum sanctorum of temples. Small doors where one enters by bending are found in temples, not in mosques," Patil added.
