‘Shoot-on-sight’ orders for Sri Lankan military trying to quell violent protests
  • 2 years ago
Sri Lankan security forces have been ordered to open fire on protesters caught breaking the law in a bid to quell anti-government rallies. Demonstrators are calling for the resignation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa over the island nation’s worst economic crisis in history. A countrywide curfew has been imposed and extended to May 12, 2022, as authorities seek to end the violence. Eight people have been killed and more than 200 injured in clashes since March.
