Deptford fire: Building roof ‘destroyed’ in ‘horrific’ twelve-hour blaze
  • 2 years ago
A “horrific” blaze which raged for almost 12 hours has completely “destroyed” the roof of a building in Deptford, firefighters have said.

Witness Catherine, who lives nearby and called the fire service, told how she saw firefighters “hacking” with axes at the roof as they tried to extinguish the inferno.

She said: “Firefighters are now on the roof hacking with claw axes at the roof surface.

“The entrance to the balcony area which opens from the communal stairwell has now caved in.

"Firefighters in oxygen tanks completely encased in smoke plumes.

“Horrific amount of noxious fumes and billowing smoke.”
