Myanmar junta has reportedly torched 100 villages since last year’s coup

Myanmar’s army and pro-military militias have been burning villages in the central part of the country almost every day since early 2022, according to reports from the BBC and local media. The junta has been accused of crushing dissent by razing villages since it overthrew the civilian government of Aung San Suu Kyi on February 1, 2021. The country has since been in chaos, with more than 1,500 people killed and thousands displaced from their homes.
