Xuancheng, abbreviated as Xuan, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Anhui Province, one of the 27 cities in the central region of the Yangtze River Delta, the central city of the G60 science and innovation corridor, a city in the Nanjing metropolitan area, a wing of the demonstration zone for undertaking industrial transfer in the Wanjiang River City Belt, the core city of the South Anhui International Tourism and Culture Demonstration Zone, an important transportation hub in Southeast Anhui, and the hometown of the Four Treasures of China. The total area of the city is 12,340 square kilometres. As of November 2020, the city has 1 district, 4 counties and 2 county-level cities under its administration, with a resident population of 2,500,100 people. In 2021, Xuancheng City will achieve a regional GDP of 183.39 billion RMB, an increase of 10.1% over the previous year, with an average growth of 6.9% over two years.
Xuancheng is located in the southeast of Anhui in East China, adjacent to Suzhou and Zhejiang, near Shanghai and Hangzhou, and belonged to Wu Yue in ancient times. In April 1982, the Xuancheng District Committee and Executive Office were relocated from Wuhu to Xuancheng, and in 2000, the district was abolished and the city was established.
Xuancheng has been known as "South Xuan and North He" since ancient times, and has the reputation of being the hometown of fish and rice in the South. The city is known as a place of poets since ancient times and a place where the people and culture of Xuancheng are the most popular. It has been awarded the honours of National Historical and Cultural City, National Sanitary City, National Garden City, National Forest City, National Civilized City, etc.
