JACKSON POLLOCK - How Much Do You Really Know?

Art Biography: Jackson Pollock by Tiago Azevedo

Hi my friends, here I am with one of my favorite painters, Jackson Pollock, in this video I go over some known facts about his life and some of my favorite paintings of his.

Pollock was born in 1912 in Wyoming. His father was a farmer and his mother was an artist.

Pollock enrolled in the manual arts high school, where he discovered his passion for art, and in 1930, he moved to New York city to live with his brother that was also his art teacher. During the depression period, President Franklin D Roosevelt started a program called the Public Works of Art, and Pollock enlisted in this project.

And in 1937, he developed an interest in symbolism, native American art, and Pablo Picasso's work. In 1941, Peggy Guggenheim expressed interest in Pollock’s paintings and said that he was possibly the most original artists in American art and she immediately contracted him.

He married Lee Krasner that helped him promote and manage his artwork and Pollock’s, most famous paintings were made during this “Drip” period between 1947 and 1950, that consist in paint dripping into canvas. He became wildly popular after being featured in Life Magazine that stated that he was the greatest living painter in the United States.

He remains one of the most influential artists of the 20th century.

What inspires me the most about his work is the way he manages to acquire huge success by pursuing his own unique style that was unprecedented until then.
