Fewer than 20% of breast cancer mastectomy survivors have reconstruction

Every year about 20,000 people are diagnosed with breast cancer, and 40 per cent of them will have a mastectomy. Fewer than 20 percent of those have a breast reconstruction. A survey by Breast Cancer Network Australia found almost a quarter of women in the public system were left waiting more than a year for a reconstruction.
