The Zika virus destroys a specific type of cells in the developing brain of babies. The reason for the small head is microcephaly. This is a congenital malformation. A child affected by this is born with a small in size and an underdeveloped brain. It is caused by virus infection during pregnancy.

कोरोना महामारी के बीच अब देश में जीका वायरस ने दस्तक दे दी है। वैज्ञानिकों का दावा है कि जीका वायरस के दुष्प्रभाव से नवजात का मस्तिष्क छोटा हो जाता है। ज़ीका वायरस शिशुओं के विकसित होते मस्तिष्क में एक ख़ास तरह की कोशिकाओं को नष्ट कर देता है। सिर छोटा होने की वजह माइक्रोसेफली है। ये एक जन्मजात विकृति है। इससे प्रभावित बच्‍चे का जन्‍म आकार में छोटे और अविकसित दिमाग के साथ होता है। ये गर्भावस्था के दौरान वायरस के संक्रमण से होता है।
