Rose Rose I Love You - Yao Lee - Piano Cover

Also known as “Shanghai Rose” this was the first original Chinese song to become a hit in the US. Recorded for the first time around 1940 by Yao Lee it would become very popular in Asia, but it wouldn’t reach the peak of its fame until 1951 when Frank Laine sang an English version of it, becoming a favorite tune in dance halls.
It has been featured in many movies, because reflects very well the spirit of those frenetic and exciting years. For some would become a sort of Shanghai anthem, a place that like Hong Kong would receive the influence of many foreigners. Some of the most remarkable movies where it appears are: "Wandering Songstress" (1941), Jackie Chan’s "Miracles" (1989), "The Pillow Book" (1996) and the most recent one "The White Countess" (2005).

Among all the covers that had been made of this song I’d like to mention the one by Joanna Wang, this Taiwanese singer gave to this classic a very personal touch with her youthful and fresh voice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9AGCY...

Because of its lively melody and syncopated rhythm immediately came to my mind the spirit of the early jazz, so for this arrangement I decided to try to “ragtime up” the song a little . I hope you enjoy it!
