The pufferfish, otherwise known as the blowfish, may be found living in either marine or freshwater habitats. In fact, the largest living known puffer species is a freshwater inhabitant. Marine puffer fish stick to coastal regions. These animals are well known for their behavior of blowing up in defense. They do this by sucking in large amounts of water! Pufferfish are poisonous to eat, though some people do dine on them, and they're considered a delicacy. Some pufferfish species make circles in the sand as a nest for their eggs. For a long time, it was unknown what these alien-like circles actually were! Though they seem like they have the best defenses, these animals may be eaten by predators including tiger sharks and sea snakes.
