Butterball, the nation's largest turkey company, is laying off 75 workers at its processing plant in Carthage, Missouri.

The company said the cuts will take effect March 1. Previously, 685 people were employed at the plant.

CEO Keith Shoemaker said the government's ethanol policies are to blame for the closure as the cost of corn has dramatically increased – corn is an important ingredient in turkey feed.
