Apartment block in northern Russia turns into ice cave
  • 3 years ago
An abandoned apartment building in Severny, in northern Russia, looks like a snow queen cave.
The apartment block is covered with snow, frost and icy stalactites.
Severny is located above the Polar circle.
It was established, when coal mines were discovered in the area.
In the 1990s, coal production declined and the majority of plants were closed.
After an accident in 2016, which took the lives of 36 people, the mine was abandoned.
These days about 8,000 people are still living in the town.
As people keep moving away, the number of inhabitants continues to decrease.
