Award-winning South Korean filmmaker Kim Ki-duk has died in Latvia.
Citing local news source Delfi, Russian news agency TASS reported that Kim was receiving treatment for COVID-19 at a Latvian hospital at the time of his death.
The Korean embassy in Riga will be assisting with the funeral process as requested by Kim's family, as it is difficult to travel between countries during the pandemic.
His remains will then be sent to his family.
Kim was internationally known for his film 'Pieta', which won the Golden Lion at the 69th Venice International Film Festival in 2012.
Sources say he was planning on acquiring permanent residency in the Baltic state.
