Before the first world war, Europe enjoyed 100 years of relative peace,, maintained by the concert of Europe. This prosperous era was shattered within 37 days, beginning with the assassination of Franz Ferdinand, heir to the Austro-Hungarian empire.

In the following weeks, the outdated diplomatic machine could not hold the European superpowers from their interests. The web of alliances, treaties and politics escalated what was a local conflict into a global calamity.
It became the Great War. One that led 20 million people to a violent death.

37 days, a mini-series produced by BBC, portrays the events that transpired in a couple of weeks after the assassination, featuring the key players of European powers.
