Donald Trump Threatens To Close Down Social Media, After Twitter Fact-Checks Two Of His Tweets
  • 3 years ago
US President Donald Trump on May 27 threatened to close down social media. This comes after Twitter for the first time mildly censured his tweets, adding a fact check notification to two of his posts. Twitter labelled Trump’s tweets unsubstantiated and also accused him of making false claims. Twitter targeted two tweets the president posted on May 27 in which he contended without evidence that mail-in voting would lead to fraud and a ‘Rigged Election’. Under the tweets, Twitter posted a link which read ‘Get the facts about mail-in ballots’. This is a first for the social network which has long resisted calls to censure the US president over truth-defying posts. The president also accused Twitter of ‘interfering in the 2020 Presidential Election’. Trump also tweeted saying, ‘Big action to follow’ without specifying what it would be.
