World Humanitarian Day is an international day dedicated to recognising the humanitarian personnel and those who have lost their lives working for humanitarian causes. The day is observed on August 19 every year. The day is also observed to pay respects to Sérgio Vieira de Mello who was killed in the bombing of the UN Headquarters in Baghdad. This year World Humanitarian Day comes at a time when the world is fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.
