ENCG DAKHLA, May 23, 2017
The Dakhla (Dajla, Villa Cisneros) First Forum on Desert Tourism is the first meeting ever organized in Africa about the Desert and Sahara tourism and desert travel industry, on May 23, 2017, as an initiative of The Desert Action Association, the forum took place in the National School of Business and Management of (ENCG) Dakhla, Morocco, and organized by the first batch of the Desert Economy Club's founding member students, under the supervision of the Pr. Elouali AAILAL from The Desert Action Association. The theme of this first edition was: "Desert Tourism (Saharan tourism): Diagnosis and opportunities". Many subjects were evoked, starting from the diagnosis of the state of desert tourism worldwide, also tourism in Morrocan deserts in Dakhla, Laayoune (El Aaiún, El Ayoun), Ouarzazate, Zagora, Guelmim, M'Hamid El Ghizlane, Merzouga, Errachidia... A special focus was on the Tourism Complementary between these Morrocan Saharan provinces (Dakhla, Laayoune...) and the Canary Islands: To boost the economy of the southern provinces, It is possible to start from desert tourism as a typical example of an economic sector, which does not require a lot of resources in terms of investment, however, it is compatible with the qualifications, characteristics, and experience of the local inhabitants of these areas, by designing a complementary tourism offer with the Canary Islands tourist offer, which is centered around seaside tourism, to obtain a tourist product that combines the Sahara desert and the sea (beach) and takes advantage from the geographical proximity and the large international flows of tourists in these islands, which is among the Top tourist destinations worldwide.
