Heavy rains in China have triggered landslides,... blocking the tributaries to a major river and creating a lake.
It has prompted even more people in the area to evacuate.
Lee Seung-jae has more.
The outskirts of a mountainous village located in China's Hubei Province has been hit by a massive landslide.
While the landslide has changed the shape of the mountain nearby,... it's also created a 'lake' of floodwater.
Officials say the landslide along the Qiangjiang River is also increasing the threat of dam failure in the area.
Soldiers have been mobilized to evacuate citizens.
The Three Gorges Dam continues to discharge floodwater from its reservoir,... with its capacity near maximum levels.
However,... the release of floodwater has caused the nearby Yangtze River to overflow,... raising fears of flash flooding.
Many have fled the area,... some even leaving their cars on the road to escape,... as more than 200 regions along the Yangtze River have seen water levels rise beyond its limit,... with 26 regions seeing the highest water levels in recent history.
On Sunday,... a dam in Anhui Province in eastern China was blasted to allow floodwater to flow downriver.
The Wangjiaba dam on the Huai River also opened 13 of its gates on Monday,... flooding cropland and forests to prevent more extensive damage downriver.
However,... the action has caused massive damage to farmland in the area.
While some worry if the Three Gorges Dam can hold back the massive flow of rainwater into its reservoir,... Chinese officials insist the dam "isn't as fragile" as some speculate it to be.
