President Moon calls for thorough investigation into late triathlete's allegations of abuse

President Moon Jae-in has ordered a thorough investigation into allegations of abuse following the suicide of a former triathlete.
At a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday,... President Moon said such an unfortunate act cannot be repeated and that those responsible should be punished.
Severe treatment and physical abuse against an athlete is an outdated tradition that cannot be justified. Such unfortunate cases cannot be repeated again. A thorough investigation must be followed by the appropriate punishment and allocation of responsibility.
Choi Suk-hyeon a junior bronze medalist at the 2015 Triathlon Asian Championships had accused her former coach and teammates of physically abusing her for years before she committed suicide last week.
The president said results should not come before the athlete's happiness,... and called on the related ministries to swiftly come up with effective prevention measures.
He also expressed regret over the setback in recent talks between unions, management and the government on overcoming the COVID-19 fallout.
He asked all sides for efforts to reach a compromise,... saying the government will also do its best to protect jobs and companies and come up with measures to relieve blind spots in employment insurance by the end of the year.
