A hapless striker suffered a double blow when he missed a penalty kick - with the ball bouncing off the post and knocking him over.

The football player stepped up to take the penalty while the two amateur sides were tied at 1-1 in the 80th minute in Surat Thani, southern Thailand.

With a long run up, the youngster smashed the ball against the metal goalpost.

However, it then rebounded straight back at him, hitting him in the chest and knocking him onto the hardy dusty surface.

The 18-year-old striker clambered back onto his feet with an embarrassed smile on his face before trudging back to his disappointed teammates.

A local sports photographer who recorded the penalty kick fail said the lad joked about it afterwards.

The filmer said: ''He wanted to forget that penalty when I ask him. He said he just kicked the ball as hard as he could.

''It was embarrassing that he missed it when he could have won the game. But also the ball hit him in the chest. I felt his pain.''

The game between Nakuan FC and Nilubon Sport on March 16 finished 1-1 after the failed penalty.
