#NYCVIBE takes a look back at footage of the late Jimmy Heath performing at the 2017 @JazzmobileNY Summerfest Concert in Central Park.

Jimmy was a celebrated saxophonist, composer, arranger and big band leader whose prolific career spanned over seven decades of jazz history. Heath played alongside some of the biggest names in Jazz, including Miles Davis, John Coltrane and countless others. He was a smaller man - 5’3’’, but generated a big sound as a tenor saxophonist. He earned the nickname “Little Bird,” because of the influence of Charlie Parker, whose nickname was “Bird.” Heath is often credited with bringing the bebop revolution of the 1940’s to the music of succeeding generations.

We’re reminded of happier times as we revisit Heath’s electric performance at the 2017 Summerfest concert in Central Park. Heath joined rising stars @mattwhitaker (Matt Whitaker) and @AllanHarrisMusic (Allan Harris) on stage in a performance that celebrated Jazz and its continued influence in the modern music landscape.
