The Chinese economy contracted for the first time in more than four decades in the first quarter after the country was slammed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
China's National Bureau of Statistics revealed on Friday,... that its GDP was down MINUS 6-point-8 percent on-year from January to March.
This comes after the world's second largest economy imposed large-scale shutdowns and strict quarantines to curb the spread of the virus.
It's reportedly China's first negative growth since 1976.
During the first quarter, China's industrial production fell over 8 percent on-year,... while retail sales slumped 19 percent.
