A ship crew were forced to flee to safety when they discovered a hungry polar bear onboard their cargo vessel in the Arctic Ocean.

Incredible footage taken by the Russian crew captures the wild beast taking a stroll on the deck and looking for food.
The polar bear can be seen enjoying its ride as the ship leaves the port near the Norwegian islands of Svalbard in the Arctic.

The crew members, from the port city of Murmansk, northwestern Russia, said the polar bear managed to grab onto the fenders where the plastic buoys chained to the side of the boat when mooring.

They had to run up to the roof of the ship when the huge animal suddenly appeared on deck, and once there they could only watch helplessly until the hungry polar bear got bored and left.

Although it appeared to be playful as it rolled around in the snow, the crew were under no illusions that the huge polar bear could be very dangerous, they were careful not to antagonise it.

Eventually, after several hours, it got bored of looking for fish and jumped back into the water and it swam off.
The Murmansk Sea Fish Port tweeted on Tuesday: "An uninvited guest on the deck of the ship Arctic Spirit.

"In the Spitsbergen area, the polar bear deftly climbed onto the deck of the transport on fenders and paralysed the work!"

In February, polars bears were seen eating their own babies as melting ice and fossil fuel extraction destroys their habit.
Russian scientist Ilya Mordvintsev said the bears resorted to cannibalism due to climate change.

He said in a conference: "Cases of cannibalism among polar bears are a long-established fact, but we're worried that such cases used to be found rarely while now they are recorded quite often.

"We state that cannibalism in polar bears is increasing."
