While many law firms in New York are struggling in the current economy, Smith, Gambrell & Russell has just opened a seven-lawyer office in the city
Smith Gambrell's chairman, Stephen M. Forte, said the fallout in the New York market from the Wall Street financial crisis presents opportunities for the firm from Atlanta.
The New York office, which launched December 1, is Smith Gambrell's fifth. The firm also has a 23-lawyer full service office in Jacksonville, Fla., a seven-lawyer office in Washington focused on intellectual property law and a one-man outpost in Frankfurt, Germany.
Forte said his firm has been interested in a New York location for a long time to better serve clients in its aviation, litigation, bankruptcy, and international practices.
