Orakei Korako Geothermal Park near Rotorua New Zealand

We visited Orakei Korako Geothermal Park only weeks after the Mount White disaster. It was nervewracking to enter a geothermal area at that time, but this was something I wanted to see. We've been to Yellowstone, and Rotorua is as close to Yellowstone as it gets in New Zealand. Pretty similar!
As we drove in, new steam vents opened in the road. Danger lay just below the surface. Signs warned us to stay on the path, for obvious reasons. Warnings of extreme danger appeared again and again. But we went anyway.
Life is a paradox. You appreciate it the most when you're standing on the edge. Few places give you that chance, and I for one am glad I came.
