1. Vietnamese garment sector's export revenue $39 bn in 2019
Last year was tough for Vietnam’s garment industry with an export revenue of $39 billion, $1 billion lower than its target, according to Vietnam National Textile and Garment Group (Vinatex), who said it is critical for the sector to make moves to comply with origin rules to enjoy the preferential tariffs in free trade deals.

2. Adidas to use 50 percent recycled polyester in 2020
In 2020, for the first time, more than half of the polyester used in Adidas products will come from recycled plastic waste. From 2024 onwards, the company is committed to using only recycled polyester. In 2020, the sportswear firm also plans to produce a record 15 to 20 million pairs of shoes with plastic waste collected from beaches and coastal regions.

3. Italy worst textile polluter in Europe, UK 4th: study
Italy ranks as the worst textile polluter in Europe, with the country producing 466 tonnes of textile waste every year, according to new research from sustainable fashion brand LABFRESH, which found Italians spend a proportionately large amount on new clothing each year, at £920 per person.

4. Stella McCartney unveils first biodegradable stretch denim
London-born designer Stella McCartney recently launched the world's first biodegradable stretch denim line using plant-based yarns to mark her commitment to sustainable fashion by collaborating with Italian brand Candiani. The new sustainable collection is made with Candiani's patented Coreva Stretch Technology.

5. Gap Inc. no longer pursuing separation of Old Navy
Gap Inc. announced that it does not intend to separate Old Navy into a standalone public company. Though the plan to separate was aimed at value creation from iconic brands, its board of directors concluded the cost and complexity of splitting into two, combined with softer business performance, limited its ability to create appropriate value from separation.

6. 40% of Americans shopped direct-to-consumer in 2019: study
Forty percent of Americans have made a purchase from direct-to-consumer (DTC) brands last year, according to a survey from communications agency Diffusion. The study found 14% of those shoppers made 1-19% of their purchases from DTC companies.
