The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington is eliminating 10 percent of its workforce, or 25 positions.

The job cuts were made to administrative employees and clubhouse personnel. The eliminations are expected to save the organization approximately $1 million dollars a year, according to spokeswoman Kerrin Torres.

The non-profit had already been looking to cut costs, but the economic slowdown forced the decision. The organization is about $7 million dollars in debt.

The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Washington is the area's largest private operator of youth recreation centers.
