China-made polar icebreaker reaches Antarctica on maiden voyage

China's new polar icebreaker, Xuelong II, has reached Antarctica a little over a month after setting out on Shenzhen on its maiden polar voyage. The first China-made vessel of its kind arrived November 23, 2019, on a mission to deliver supplies to a transfer base near the Zhongshan research station on the resource-rich continent.
