Police in Nepal honour doggy detectives for their service on holy day

Police canines were honoured at a religious ceremony in Nepal, during which they received garlands and treats for their good service.

Nepalese police officers celebrated the second day of the 'Yama Panchak' festival devoted to the god of death, at the Central Police Dog Training Centre in Kathmandu on October 27.

The second day of the event is called 'Kukur Tihar' when dogs are worshipped as protectors of the home. Officers decorated the dogs with vermillion powder and garlands of flowers.

Nepalese custom claims that dogs are messengers of Yamraj, or the god of death, and the ceremony is an attempt to appease the god.
