Pres. Moon hopes DMZ can resemble the Santiago trail in Spain

President Moon Jae-in sat down for talks with the King of Spain, and expressed hopes the demilitarized zone separating the two Koreas,... can become like Camino De Santiago.
The duo also discussed cooperation in tourism and construction.
Park Hee-jun has our top story. President Moon Jae-in says he wishes the demilitarized zone can one day attract and welcome people from all over the world, like the Camino de Santiago walking trail in Spain.
He expressed such hopes to the King of Spain, Felipe the Sixth during a bilateral summit at the Blue House on Wednesday.
President Moon was referring to his vision to transform the DMZ into a global peace zone,… laid out in his UN General Assembly address last month.
Supporting President Moon's determination,… the Spanish King said he would also like to see the DMZ become a symbol of world peace.
The two leaders discussed a wide range of areas for cooperation,… especially with the two countries celebrating their 70th anniversary of establishing bilateral diplomatic relations next year.
One of them was future technology.
"If we cooperate in essential 5G services, like self-driving cars and smart cities, we can create a great synergy effect."
And on the tourism front...
President Moon anticipates Korea's attendance at the International Tourism Fair in Madrid next year... to bring more Spanish visitors to the country.
According to the Blue House, Korea is the first East Asian country to be invited as a guest to one of the largest tourism exhibitions in the world.
Korea and Spain will also continue to expand their joint construction projects in third countries.
Korea is evaluated highly in the Middle East and Asia-Pacific market,... and has successfully secured major contracts in Australia for road construction and countries like Turkey for oil facilities.
The leaders noted the potential they have in the industry,… with Spain as a gateway to Central and South America and Africa,… and Korea a hub of the East Asian market.
As of September this year,... South Korea and Spain worked together on 56 projects in 23 countries under contracts worth 13 billion U.S. dollars.
Following the bilateral talks,... the leaders signed a set of MOUs on tourism and trade.
On Thursday,... the leaders will attend a bilateral business forum, where they will further discuss ways to boost economic ties.
