Members of staff hand out copies of an extra edition of a newspaper on Monday morning (October 22) in Suginami City, reporting that Japan's new Emperor Naruhito has officially proclaimed his enthronement in a ritual-bound ceremony.

The emperor officially began his reign in May after the abdication of his father, the then-Emperor Akihito. Now after a series of rituals inside the imperial palace Tokyo, his ascension is formalised.
