Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Hannah Yeoh says her ministry is in talks with the Home Ministry and the Foreign Affairs Ministry on the need to amend the Federal Constitution to allow both men and women to confer their citizenship on their children born outside of Malaysia through the same process.

Previously, Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said the Home Ministry was set to review the standard operating procedure with regard to applications for citizenship to ensure that every application is considered more carefully, fairly and speedily.

He said the new SOP will have clearer guidelines in handling and considering applications for citizenship, particularly under Article 15A which concern citizenship by registration (wives and children of citizens).
