DOH chief inspects burial of 'Yolanda' victims in Tacloban

MANILA -- Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Enrique Ona visited Tacloban City in Leyte to inspect the burial of victims of super typhoon "Yolanda." Ona arrived in Barangay Suhi in Tacloban, which was among the worst hit areas by the typhoon, on Friday. After his inspection, Ona said he is "pretty contented now with the efforts that is being exerted to hasten the burial of all the cadavers." Authorities in Tacloban expect the burial to take around five days to finish. Many of the bodies have yet to be identified or claimed by relatives nearly two months since the massive typhoon struck central Philippines. Ona assured that the burial of all the victims will be finished by next week. The health secretary also assured residents in the area that the bodies will not pose any health risks. In the latest update from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), the death toll from Yolanda now stands at 6,166 with 1,785 others still missing.
