Floyd to face off with Canelo for solid gold WBC belt

MANILA, Philippines – The World Boxing Council (WBC) presented a 24-carat world championship belt in Mexico City ahead of the Las Vegas showdown between Floyd Mayweather and his Mexican rival Saul “Canelo” Alvarez on September 14. WBC President Jose Sulaiman presented the boxing council’s first event belt made of solid gold, which also featured a strap made of Ferrari leather and gold coins with images of boxing greats. The historic prize will be an added incentive for Mayweather and Alvarez ahead of their Las Vegas bout. Tickets for the grand event at the MGM Grand sold out within a record-breaking 24 hours, netting almost $20-M in box office revenue. Mornings @ ANC, September 4, 2013
