Spider-Man May Be out of
the Marvel Cinematic Universe
.
In a series of tweets posted on their official
Twitter account, Sony addressed the recent
reports of their conflict with Disney.
According to Sony, it was Disney’s decision to pull
producer Kevin Feige from the “Spider-Man” franchise. .
Much of today’s news about Spider-Man has
mischaracterized recent discussions about
Kevin Feige’s involvement in the franchise. We
are disappointed, but respect Disney’s decision
not to have him continue as a lead producer
of our next live action Spider-Man film, Sony Films, via statement.
Sony also claimed that Feige’s departure
is due to his busy schedule with Disney. .
[We] understand that the many new
responsibilities that Disney has given
him – including all their newly added Marvel
properties – do not allow time for him to
work on IP they do not own, Sony Films, via statement.
The statement contradicts initial reports that said
Feige was forced out by Sony, due to the two
studios inability to negotiate financial terms. .
Feige served as a lead producer on both the
standalone "Spider-Man" movies and “Avengers”
movies that Spider-Man appeared in.
Without a working deal in place between Sony and
Disney, Spider-Man will no longer crossover into the MCU.
The “Spider-Man” franchise is currently Sony’s most
valuable brand, with two more movies scheduled
for future release, regardless of Feige’s involvement.
