20 flats destroyed by massive fire in east London’s Barking

Twenty flats have reportedly been destroyed in a major fire in east London.

Eyewitness video filmed on Sunday (June 9) by a local resident who lives nearby shows the block of apartments in De Pass Gardens, Barking ablaze and firefighters on the scene.

One person can be heard sobbing in the video.

In a statement, London Fire Brigade said: “Fifteen fire engines and around 100 firefighters were called to a fire at a block of flats on De Pass Gardens in Barking.

“The ground floor to the sixth floor of the block was alight. Twenty flats were destroyed by fire and a further 10 were damaged by heat and smoke.”

One man and one woman were treated for smoke inhalation, it said.
