The iniquitous subsistence

This animation looks at evil, its face, and its absurdity. The absurd and unfathomable nature of human endeavour is magnified within the world of The Iniquitous Subsistence, with its vast scale and convoluted and interwoven systems. The “purpose” of these systems eventually reveals itself and culminates with the punishment of a creature that seems somewhat out of place in this otherwise, solely imagined world. A monstrous shark represents the face of “evil”, though the torturous machine that serves it is sustaining this monstrous life form. The cold countenance of the shark is what allows this unnerving and amoral duality.

The psychologist Marshall Rosenberg claims that the root of violence is the very concept of "evil." When we label someone or something as evil, Rosenberg claims that it invokes the desire to punish or inflict pain. It also makes it easy for us to turn off our feelings towards the person we are harming.
