Chinese film noir The Wild Goose Lake competes for Palme d’Or at 2019 Cannes festival

Award-winning Chinese director Diao Yinan is for the first time competing for top honours at the Cannes Film Festival this year with his crime thriller The Wild Goose Lake – or “Nan Fang Che Zhan De Ju Hui” in Chinese. The film exposing China’s criminal underbelly is up for the prestigious Palme d’Or. China-born Singaporean actress Gong Li, one of the most popular faces in Chinese cinema, was also in the spotlight at Cannes this year as she collected the “2019 Women In Motion Award”.
