To gpriore, hey man I don't see why you would spend so much money on Ubuntu....seriously... Any back to W7. Gamers will never rejoice for a new OS platform it seems...I have stuck with xp after running benchmarks with my gaming rig. Personally, I think for the next 4 years atleast, there will be projects trying to upgrade XP to harness the power of hardware compatibility that W V and W 7 have, without the memory hogging features. Example: Windows XP with DX10, its been done, but very buggy and the group that released it has sadly retired from the project!
Is it already time to start looking forward to Windows 8?
Yet more pointless rubbish that hardly any one will use. As a Vista and a Leopard user i cant help feeling that Microsoft are trying to patch Vista inconsideration of Leopard.
You're awfully sensitive gpriore. I wasn't making "retarded assumptions" about you. All I said was if a person has a low level of expertise with computers, the type of people who just check e-mails or browse eBay, then Linux is out of your league. Not all of us hot-rod our cars. Likewise, not all of us "hot-rod" our computers with hardware or software customizations.
As for popup hell: just visit the control panel or try installing drivers. What is a 3-4 click process in XP is a 20 click process in Vista. All my experiences with Vista left me feeling like they dumbed it down for the average user but took away all the extras advanced users need and want. That is the core of my comment on Windows 7. If it returns to being as easy as XP, I'll upgrade. And if it's a nonstop barrage of questions like Vista, I won't. I don't need Windows to babysit me. I know what I'm doing and it's extremely annoying for it to keep questioning me.
This comment is strictly directed towards 'Frostilicus80'. Actually, for your information, I DO build custom ultra-high-end computers, have compiled programs, and most definitely have hundreds of hours worth of experience on forums!! You are really quick about jumping to retarded assumptions, especially by thinking I may be comfortable in your so-called cushy world of pre-built computers!! I think pre-built, branded computers are ALL pieces of SHIT!! And that's why I ONLY choose to use custom-built computers! Also, I don't know what the hell you have done with the computer you used, that had Vista on it, which rendered it as popup hell for you! I have NEVER had that experience!! There has NEVER been even ONE popup!! EVER!! So, evidently you are screwing your OWN experience up YOURSELF!!! This has NOTHING whatsoever to do with Windows, even though you would like to falsely convince people of that!!
gpriore, don't let your bad impressions of Ubuntu sour you on Linux all together. I am a Linux junkie and think Ubuntu is absolutely horrible. Just because it is the most popular flavor doesn't make it the best. Personally I like Mandriva, but truth be told Linux just is not for everybody. Its greatest strengths are also by far its greatest weaknesses. If you have never built your own computer, don't know what it means to compile a program, or don't know how to search a forum, stay in the cushy world of pre-built computers with whatever version of Windows Microsoft is forcing down our throats at the moment.
I'm still one of the XP holdouts. I despise working on Vista. If Windows 7 is more like XP than Vista, I may use it. Otherwise I will abandon Windows completely and just use Mandriva. Vista is nothing more than popup hell to me. Do you want to do this action? Really? Oh, too bad. You don't have privs to do it. Please contact yourself for a solution.
This comment is strictly directed towards 'DarkLinkXXXX'. Let me give your little punk-ass some information based on my own experience with Ubuntu! I spent MONTHS and even many hundreds and hundreds of dollars hiring software engineers to get the Ubuntu shit to work properly, and even the software engineers went through NIGHTMARES!!! Ok?? Believe me, I really WANTED to believe and prove that Ubuntu is the BEST, but, I COULDN'T!!! I was even going to purchase the $250 Canonical Tech-Support, however, after laying out the full list of problems I was experiencing, even the Tech-Representative told me NOT to purchase the support, because the problems were too extreme and they most likely would not even end up getting resolved!!!!! Can you believe that??? So, I ended up saying 'To HELL with Ubuntu', and threw it in the TRASH!!! And guess what, I don't experience ANY of those stupid retarded problems with Windows!! My experience with Windows has been FLAWLESS!!! So, apparently you are wrong!
Windows Sux. Fedora and ubuntu kix windows big fat rich evil asses. Is it open source? NO! Can you put it on a thumbdrive or cd? NO! Do you need a license to make good software for it? YES! Is most of the good software for it open source? NO! Is there anything else that this comment is missing? Hell yeah. Only an idiot would get a computer with windows on it without a good solid reason like for software needed for a bussiness that will only work on windows. I am not even finished. Does windows have good security? NO! Does windows have open source virus protection? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This comment is still missing alot of criticisms. If you don't belive me, than you better do some online research.
