Harry Reid Lashes Out At James Comey Over Russia's Attempts To Interfere In 2016 Election

Harry Reid has accused former FBI Director James Comey of not taking proper measures to stop Russia from interfering in the 2016 election.
Former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid recently accused former FBI Director James Comey of not taking proper measures to stop Russia from interfering in the 2016 election, reports The Hill.
During an interview on AM 970's 'The Cats Roundtable' program, Reid said: "In the last Congress that I served in, I wrote a letter in August to the director of the FBI, Comey, and said, 'Russia is meddling with our elections, and you need to do something about that,' and by October, he had done nothing."
"We now know that he should have done something," Reid further noted. "Now, the hindsight from his troops are that 'Well, he didn't do it because he thought Hillary [Clinton] would win the election.' He therefore thought it'd be too political for him to get involved. And what we saw happen is the Russians interfered with our elections."
Reid has previously criticized Comey for missteps including costing Clinton the 2016 presidential election.
The former FBI director had made the controversial decision to re-open a probe into Clinton's use of a private email server less than two weeks before the election.
In an interview with DW, Comey defended the move, saying: "My judgment was the institution would suffer horrific damage if we concealed that."
He also reportedly admitted to that the FBI "knew the Russians were messing with our election."
The FBI's subsequent investigation into the Trump campaign's potential ties with Russia is what eventually turned into the recently concluded probe led by special counsel Robert Mueller.
